Remembering our Christmas Traditions

I've been thinking about what made my Christmas special as a child:

  • One new Christmas decoration Mum would buy each year
  • Putting up the Christmas tree on December 1 while listening to the cricket on the radio/TV
  • Putting up Christmas lights on the house
  • Opening doors on the advent calendar (nope - no chocolate just a picture behind each door)
  • Wrapping presents on Christmas Eve (to avoid any poking or prodding)
  • Opening some little gifts from Father Christmas from our personal red felt stocking to keep us amused and leaving Mum and Dad to sleep peacefully!
  • Mini cereal boxes for breakky on Christmas morning
  • Waiting until after Church on Christmas day to unwrap the presents
  • In later years, going to a Christmas eve service and coming home to a midnight snack of hot chips!
  • Grandma's roasted stuffed sausagemeat
  • Backyard cricket on Christmas day
  • Catching up with the family
  • Watching the Boxing Day test (OK did I mention we are a cricket loving family?)

More Double Jeopardy

I just could not resist telling you all about Set 2 of Double Jeopardy. This one is Christmas themed - Double Jeopardy: Holiday Edition. It included seven Christmas 24?x12? papers, to make seamless double page LOs. I just can't wait to put them to use.

Double Jeopardy: Holiday Edition

To give you an idea of how wonderful these 2412? papers are, here's a Christmas page I created last week using Double Jeopardy: Bright Basic Solids and Prestige & Holiday Prestige Bundle.

Check out Double Jeopardy

After hours of paper flipping and blending for my double page layouts I am so excited to let you know about Monica's newest product

Tired of joining and flipping papers that never quite fit to make your double page LOs? Well, no more! At the request of my CT Melissa (mshanhun), I have created Double Jeopardy: Basic Bright Solids, a collection of ten 24"x12" papers for you to use in your double page layouts. These were created at 7200x3600 dpi and so are truly a single paper, rather than a blend of two.
Scrap for Hire friendly!

I just love these!

Here's a layout for my theme album I did today with it!

Digital Scrapbooking Day Blog Train

Monica and Ellie have got together to do a great collaboration kit called Bubblicious

The Creative Team girls have been working hard to create some freebies for you. We've a great big collection of unique quick pages for you to collect, from both Monica and Ellie's CT.

You can pick up your next quick page at Melanie's blog

Apologies in advance if you can't comment on my blog- for some reason Spaces is not allowing you to comment if you don't have a Windows Live/MSN/Hotmail account. Looks like I'll have to get a funky blog like the Studio mgl CT :)

Enjoy DSD!

Pitter Patter

Time to share with the web world a very exciting piece of news - Phill and I are expecting our first baby!

So far the baby is growing well according the doctor and my first ultrasound. I've had a bit of morning sickness for the last couple of weeks and can't seem to sleep through the night, but we are both thrilled to be parents. Phill's been helping me out heaps and I'm feeling a little better this week (I even did the shopping today!)

The baby is due on the 6th of June 2009 and we've already been showered with baby cakes, well-wishes and gifts from family and friends. Thanks everyone you are so sweet!

Hi everyone! Here we are at week two of the combined challenge to Scraplift the Page of the Week. I am loving this new arrangement!

Please join me in congratulating mshanhun for this week's ICST/POTW for her page, Engaged. Please be sure to stop by her gallery and leave her some comments for this beautiful page. And mshanhun, please stop by and answer some questions so we can get to know you better!

Free Spirit

Finally Mon and I got together and managed it to finish a collab!
Check out the various shades of pinks and blues. With lots of cardboard balanced with acrylic, chrome and glitter, Free Spirit is filled with elements that would make it perfect for any kind of layout. Boys and Girls can be scrapped equally well with this kit!

Our Esperance Weekend

Stu, Kelly, Justin, Melissa G, Meran, Ben and Becky, Phill and I set off in 3 cars from Kalgoorlie BP Truckstop at about 4:30 thanks to Stu's guineas pigs (you had to be there) and drove for 4 hours in the rain.

We stayed at Yot Spot apartments 3 and 4 on the Esplanade, which were really lovely apartments. After the early risers walked up to the jetty, we headed off to Cape Le Grand in the morning, and after climbing the rocks at Hellfire bay thankfully the sun came out and we were able to enjoy swimming (well Ben Phill and I) at Lucky Bay. We got home in time to see most of the Grand Final too. Games, a walk around town and more games, another trip to Hellfire bay for swimming (6 fish!) and another quick dip rounded off the weekend for us. We had dinner at Gibson Soak on Saturday night and celebrated Stu's impending birthday with a yummy cake. We all headed off to Kal on Monday morning.

Check out the photos at our Picasa or Facebook pages.

A happy week

We've been blessed to have Lauren stay for the weekend, well she got in on Friday arvo and left Wednesday morning.
I've basically lifted this from Lauren's blog, apologies for the plagiarism! Plus added a few details :)
We have done some cooking (pasties and choc melting moments), scrapping (Dad's pressie and Lauren's ball) and piano playing. We had a games night on Friday night and then one of their friends' 4-year-old had a birthday party Saturday. After church we went to a park with some of their friends. I saw emus, cockatoos, kangaroos and peacocks.
I've made a couple of pages today

Now it's time to get back to marking assignments!

Fonts

As some of you you would know I love fonts. There's just something about getting the right one to express a feeling for a page, letter or document.

I've been invited to create layouts using fonts from Studio Fontologie.

Spring

Although this photo is a few weeks old now, we are pleased to repot that our garden is growing, the shutdown at the Smelter is over and life is returning to normal. We enjoyed having Phill's parents in town at the start of the month and Lauren is coming to Kal at the end of this week. The weather is warming up - after the obligatory cold snap for Race Round (windy too, to blow dresses and hats around).

I've been helping out with the programming of the services at Kalgoorlie Baptist for the last few months and on Sunday sung at the Kalgoorlie Town Hall Centenary Celebration Service (about 350 people came). I'm still tutoring at ECU, still playing piano and singing at church, and still working on our curtains!

After Phill working such long hours for the last couple of months with the shutdown we are looking forward to our weekend away with homegroup in Esperance for the Queen's Birthday long weekend. We celebrate Ben and Becky Noordink's birthday in style on Sunday with a great party - and as usual we are busy with lots of work around the house. The latest photos are on the Picasa site. Leave me a comment if you want the address (my blog is public now...).

Well that's all for now - hope you are doing well :)

Lefties Rule!

Ok, so I'm left handed, but did you know that I descend from the famous clan of left-handers??
There's an interesting article here: Are you Kerr-handed?
kerrancient1Theories on Left-handedness and Laterality
For example, the Kerr clan of Scotland is infamous for their predisposition towards left-handedness. 3 This feature, known by the Kerr as being "Corry Fisted" or "Kerr-Handed" can be understood as a culturally reinforced trait that was supposed to aid these Scottish warriors in methods of warfare. Due to their common gene pool, however, this trait can also be understood a genetic characteristic of the Kerr clan.
