Keep a Contented Heart: Scrap Happy Blog Hop

scrap happy 3Welcome to the Scrapworthy Lives Scrap Happy Blog Hop.I've been loving reading Stephanie's blog about the Scrap Happy project over at Scrapworthy lives, so I was thrilled when I found out she's got a blog hop going. You have probably found me from Kiss and Tell Scrapbooking.

This month the theme is:

Keep a Contented Heart

During this busy Christmas season when advertisers and even the government seem to be encouraging us to buy more, do more, and spend more ;Gretchen Rueben suggests some tasks that keep us focussed on contentment:

Laugh out loud

I’ve talked about a couple of ways to document the laugh out loud moments in my Dececember Daily Inspiration Podcast!

Use good manners

Oh yes, being mannerly can help us focus on the good, and be concerned about our own actions rather than those of others.

Give positive reviews

As a young teenager, I decided to try complimenting at least one person per day, something I should pay attention to doing again!

Find an area of refuge

For me a few quiet moments of contemplation, prayer and sleep while Emily rests are my refuge. My art is also a refuge, but one that I can’t rely on being able to do every day! But I do write most days – especially during December Daily!

Being Content helps me focus

Rather than being scattered thinking about the next big thing, being content helps me focus on the here and now, the precious moments I have in my hand already!

How has being content brought you happiness lately?

Pay Attention: Scrap Happy Blog Hop

scrap happy 3Welcome to the Scrapworthy Lives Scrap Happy Blog Hop.I've been loving reading Stephanie's blog about the Scrap Happy project over at Scrapworthy lives, so I was thrilled when I found out she's got a blog hop going. You have probably found me from Kiss and Tell Scrapbooking.

This month the theme is:

Pay Attention

20110724 Week in the life day 1-9Image by mshanhun via Flickr
Attention is such a precious thing, I'm in the early stages of pregnancy and find it a lot harder than usual to focus on others. Whether it's due to morning sickness, tiredness, hormones, or just my easily disctractable nature, I just find my mind wandering.

I've been using tools to help me pay attention, so that means using my Memory Logbook, and journals to jot down details; lists, my whiteboard and reminders on my computer of things that may slip my mind; and overall mindful attitude to be sure to be paying attention to my increased energy and sleep needs.

I've been paying attention to the little details even though a website launch, university tutoring and life in general can always distract me from the bigger picture. My family deserves to have my undivided attention!

Even though I've only scrapped about 5-6 pages in the last couple of months, I've taken the time to pay attention to the little details of our daily life and I've been blogging at the kitchen table while Emily watches her favourite TV programs. Here's a sampling of my recent posts with this in mind:
I am the only one who can choose where my attention goes and today I am grateful to have this reminder.

How has paying attention brought you happiness lately?

Scrap happy blog hop: Contemplate the heavens

scrap happy 3
I've been loving reading Stephanie's blog about the Scrap Happy project over at Scrapworthy lives, so I was thrilled when I found out she's got a blog hop going. You have probably found me from Kiss and Tell Scrapbooking.

This month the theme is:

Contemplate the Heavens

Boethius: “Contemplate the extent and stability of the heavens, and then at last cease to admire worthless things.”

Scrapbooking with a feeling of wonder helps me stay peaceful. Here’s a page I created back in 2008 in my early scrapbooking days. I love that over 3 years later I still love this page – the colours and sentiment have me ready for spring to bloom!

This year our back yard doesn’t have an almond tree – in fact it looks a little like this:

Backyard

But a lot more level now! I must take more photos.
